“Egypt is a destination from which many holidaymakers return with travellers’ diarrhoea – the illness is often caused by bacteria or parasites including e coli – salmonella – shigella and campylobacter infections.”
“The hotels in Egypt often have their own doctors who blast ill holidaymakers with antibiotics such as Antinal or Streptoquin to mask the cause of infection. Tests for salmonella poisoning, for example, often prove negative when holidaymaker return to the UK following treatment from doctors in the Egypt making it more difficult to prove they are entitled to holiday compensation.”
Simon continues to say:
“Tour operators are quick to blame the weather, the sunshine, other guests, over indulgence, dehydration, and even spicy food when holidaymakers complain that they have been the victims of profuse diarrhoea, painful abdominal cramps, occasional vomiting, fever, headaches etc.”
“However, holidaymakers staying at the Hilton Hurghada Long Beach have said that the food served was of poor quality, and that hygiene practices had been permitted to lapse at the hotel with glasses not being washed properly, food served at lukewarm temperatures, and vomit in the pool being noted."
