Excellence Riviera Cancun – Salmonella and Dysentery Strikes at Hotel

Latest News September 2011 – Salmonella Holiday Illness – Claim Compensation + £250 Bonus – Amebiasis and Shigella – Excellence Riviera Cancun – Mexico – Holiday Illness

Specialist travel solicitors, Simpson Millar LLP has recently been instructed by a group of holidaymakers whose holidays have been affected by salmonella poisoning and dysentery whilst staying at the Excellence Riviera in Cancun.

The symptoms of bacillary dysentery, amoebic dysentery, and salmonella are almost identical. Infection of the digestive system causes profuse liquid diarrhoea and the production of blood and mucus in the faecal matter. Our clients felt very ill, nauseous and sometimes vomited and were hospitalised due to very severe dehydration.

The fact that this group of holidaymakers experienced salmonella and both bacillary and amoebic dysentery would suggest hygiene was not as is should have been at the Excellence Riviera Cancun.

Bacillary dysentery, as caused by Shigella Sonnei, is different to amoebic dysentery (Amebiasis), which is a disease with similar symptoms, but which is caused by an infection by Entamoeba histolytica. This is a single-celled organism that is a parasitic pathogen of travellers. Other bacterial species, namely Salmonella enterica and bacteria belonging to several species of Campylobacter can also cause dysentery.

Our investigations are ongoing with the tour operator, and if it transpires that the infections came from the Excellence Riviera Cancun then our clients can expect to recover substantial compensation.
